History

Sierra de Salamanca

Sierra de Salamanca, located southwest in the province of Salamanca, in the Mountain range of Peña de Francia, between the city of Béjar and the village of Hurdes. Integrated by thirteen municipalities, in which they exist something more than 2000 hectares of vineyard.

The vines are located on the slopes in the valley of the Alagón river, on balconies with little surface.

The loose granite in this land forms what they call Berroqueña rocks. These slopes have South direction, which allows a suitable maturation of the grape.

Historically Sierra de Salamanca is one of the most important regions in grape growing of Castile and Leon, nevertheless, due to the enormous difficulty that involves to work steep slopes and the small yields of the native variety Rufete the vineyard has been give inn.

Bodegas Valdeaguila

Bodegas Valdeaguila is a vinery founded in 2000, with a capacity to elaborate 500,000 Litres of wine. All deposits and equipment are made of stainless steel.

The elaboration process is controlled by the prestigious professor of Enology Joan Milà.

Valdeaguila has a surface of 60 Hectars of vineyards, distributed in small parcels located in Garcibuey village.

The Rufete grape

The Rufete is the native grape of the region and it has been cultivated for centuries, in fact, most of the vine of this variety is more than 70 years of age. Totally adapted to acid grounds and the climate of this mountain range with humid winters and dry summers.

The yield of this variety is very small, nevertheless it has an excellent range of aromas and fruit flavors that contribute to the wines, cause that makes it worth all the trouble to maintain this difficult culture.

In addition to the Rufete variety in this zone we also find red Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes, white Verdejo and Pedro Ximenez grapes.
